FISHING BAIT - 10 OIL-BASED FORMULAS:
FORMULA 1:
Mix together 5 parts oil of rhodium and 2 parts oil of cumen.
Add 1 part tincture of musk. Stir.
Pour into 1/2 oz. bottles and label.
Put 1 or 2 drops of fish bait to attract fish.
FORMULA 2:
Mix together 2 oz. oil of rhodium, 1/2 oz. tincture of musk, 1
oz. oil of cumen, 1/2 oz. juice of loveageroot.
Make a paste of bread crumbs mixed with shreds of cotton or
wool. Pour the oil mixture on top of it and mix well.
Keep in tightly sealed bottles.
Break off a small piece of the cotton/wool mixture and use for
bait.
FORMULA 3:
Mix together 1 lb. ground aniseed or fennel seed and 1/4 lb.
ground allspice.
Sprinkle 1/8 oz. oil of cloves over the above and mix.
Store in tightly sealed jars for a few days while the odors
blend.
Put a drop on fish bait.
FORMULA 4:
Combine 1 oz. gum benzoin and 12 oz. olive oil in a double
boiler. Heat for 2 hours.
Remove and let stand for a week. Then strain.
Add 30 drops oil of rhodium and 3 drops oil of patchouli. Use a
medicine dropper.
Add 1 1/2 oz. bacon grease or lard oil.
Store this mixture in small bottles. Put 1 or 2 drops on meat
bait.
FORMULA 5:
Combine 1/2 oz. oil of rhodium, 1/8 oz. oil of spearmint, 1/2
oz. oil of anise and 1 oz. glycerin.
Use 2 drops on any bait.
FORMULA 6:
Combine pure cod liver oil with some red oil-soluble food
coloring. Mix.
Dip any bait into the mixture.
FORMULA 7:
Put a loosely-covered jar of dead worms in a garage, barn or
outbuilding.
Wait 10 days or until they have turned to liquid.
Pour off 1/2 oz. of the liquid and mix 20 drops of oil of
rhodium with it.
Put a drop or 2 on fish bait.
FORMULA 8:
Take odd pieces of cut-up fish, clams, lead minnows, crawfish
and eels and put into a loosely-covered glass jar.
Leave until it turns to oil.
Mix 1 part oil of anise with 5 parts of the fish oil.
Use on fish bait. Especially attracts bottom feeding fish.
FORMULA 9:
Combine 2 oz. cod liver oil with 20 drops oil of anise. Mix
well.
Use on bait. Especially attracts trout.
FORMULA 10:
Combine 1/2 oz. oil of rhodium and 1/2 pint olive oil.
Put a drop or two on fish bait.

Fishing Gem #1 - When Is Best?
If you are in a boat and plan to anchor and bottom fish, get out there before the sun goes down and set up .
Over many years, it has been noticed that a good bite usually starts 2 hours before sunrise. Use an alarm clock to make sure you don't miss it!
You want to be set up and ready to wet-bait a half hour before the sun sets. Anchoring and cooking needs to be done prior to the sunset. Cooking while evening fishing can be hazardous and spills may occur!
One of the reasons to be all set up at least 30 minutes before dark is that there is usually a minor bite ½ hour before or after either sunrise or sunset. Typically they feed shallower during this minor bite - about 30 feet down in many cases.
Remember, on most bodies of water, the remaining minutes at twilight can be absolutely magical for fishermen.
Fishing Gem #2 - Go Towards The Light!
For good fast action (in either saltwater or freshwater), try to fish around piers with lights on the end of them. Most successful night fishing excursions occur around lights on buoys or piers.
Fishing Gem #3 - Can't Forget The Stream Fishermen!
Brown trout are so active after dark that it sometimes is possible to fish in just one pool and, in a good stream, take one trout after another. Use very large dry flies, oversized streamers, wet flies, and nymphs. The larger flies are easier for night-feeding trout to locate. You should fish them very slowly. With wet and streamer flies you can leave them suspended in the current near the surface and frequently take trout, although this system would not normally work during the day. Big dry flies can be drawn slowly along the surface of the water in a jerking motion to help attract trout. Some fishermen use small popping bugs when fishing for trout at night.
Fishing Gem #4 - Things To Know About Hooking Up With Stripers
Most successful Striper fishing excursions occur around lights on buoys or docks in deep water (up to 100 feet!).
There are also reports that Stripers will not go near an area where dead Stripers have been dumped for days. Some believe dead or wounded Striper let off an odor that keeps others away.
In most lakes, you will be more successful using jig heads than hooks and sinkers and Shad are a much more effective bait than anchovies.
Fishing Gem #5 - Keep That Bait Alive And Kickin'!
One secret to keeping your bait alive while waiting for the sun to set is to paint the inside of your bait tank black. Bait fish will typically swim towards the light, which in daylight would mean they are banging themselves against the sides of your bait tank. Your bait will live much longer if you eliminate daytime light, so they will stay in one place to avoid self-destruction.
Fishing Gem #6 - Listen Up!
When you fish after dark, always be alert for signs of feeding fish. At night your normally hear feeding fish before you see their swirls or splashes. When you hear a fish break the surface, chuck your lure to the spot as soon as possible. Remember that fish often have trouble locating a lure at night, so make repeated casts to spots you think hold fish.
Fishing Gem #7 - Deep Water Essential
Under deep-water conditions, you should to use a bait-caster in combination with a long graphite rod that has a lot of backbone. This setup will enable you to move a lot of line and will ensure a solid hook set in the deeper water. In addition, you should also utilize your black light to carefully watch the bow in your line to detect subtle strikes as the bait drops. These tactics will produce when fish are holding to a deep-water pattern and most other areas are not producing.
Fishing Gem #8 - It Ain't All Peaches And Cream On A Boat!
The possible downsides of night fishing are that you need to limit your group socializing and partying; it just won't work if you want to catch fish. It's also not recommended for young children, and not for more than 2 to a boat, unless the boat is large. If you had to ride out a storm, it would be a bit scarier than in the day. If the fishing is good (which it usually is at night), be willing to alter your sleep patterns.
Fishing Gem #9 - Lake Fishing Keys To Success
Main lake points offer excellent opportunities to catch fish at night. If the action slows down, come back later and you can catch additional fish from the exact same point.
Colors ranging from red/black, blue/black, green/black to chartreuse/orange seem to work well on all lakes throughout the summer. It is wise to carry a wide assortment of colors, weights, and blade sizes to meet the demands of the fish.
Main lake points and secondary points are key areas that attract fish at night throughout the summer months. Basically, the fish are inactive during the day due to the hot temperatures and will suspend in deep water off of the points. However they will move onto the points at night to ambush schools of baitfish. These locations are fairly easy to locate and can be fished very quickly allowing you to cover a lot of water in a short period of time.
Fishing Gem #10 - Live-Bait Catching!
Obviously have some bait jigs ready when you need to replenish your stock of live bait on board. For rapid bait catching, the Evening Secret is one of the best solutions, especially at night.

Using a Fishing Rod:
Rods are basically made from carbon. Plastic, composite carbon combined with Kevlar, which is a kind of
material that is bullet proof, or just high carbon. Since the carbon's force and strength in connection
to its mass is light, making it strong material that can allow thinner fabrication but still is able to
keep the span and length. A rod that is lighter evidently handling will be easier, controlling it would
be less tiring on ones arms and reduces resistance to air giving one an easier time accurately casting
it, particularly on windy ways.
Rods come in silicon carbide, hard chrome or ceramic rings having a function of letting the line pass
through. These are precisely used because of their smoothness having the function to minimize friction
when passing through the line and keep the maximum strength. Silicon materials are a fact costly, so an
alternative is bring into play ceramic rings like Zircon which when taken in to account, it is not as
tough or as light, but is much cost effective. Rings made of chrome are better, although every season
they require replacement, they do deliver excellent job of line running. At least thirteen rings are
needed from the handle all through the tip, lesser near the handle, needing more close to the tip. The
line can fasten itself to the rod, if you don’t have enough rings.
When determining length of the rod, you want to take into account exactly what kind of fishing you want.
If you want far out fishing, in that case choose a larger rod as this will offer you better control when
you are playing the fish. If you are planning to go fishing in an area that is enclosed, you will need a
shorter rod. Normally, the safe rod size to choose is13ft (3.9m). This is lengthy enough for a waggler but
does not cast out too far.
Handles

1. How frequent and where do you fish? Are you a beginner, a weekend warrior, or a tournament pro? If you are just starting out, you may need to budget and spend less money on your first rod. Once you learn the techniques and once you have decided that fishing is for you, that is the time to spend on more specific rods.
2. Freshwater or Saltwater fish? While there are a few rods that can be used for both fresh and saltwater fish, most rods are made for a specific purpose and application.
3. Spinning or Casting? The species you that you choose to chase will determine it.
4. Power, sensitivity, and your technique. The rod should match the way you enjoy fishing. If you
like to fish with lures, then you should look for a rod that is comfortable enough to cast frequently all
day long.

The act of fishing with live worms seems simple enough, and in actuality it is, but most anglers overlook some simple steps that can help them be much more successful. In this article, I'm going to teach you how to fish with live worms in a manner in which you may have never considered. More than 15 years ago, my fishing mentor (who was the best live worm angler that I have ever come in contact with) came up with some simple strategies on how to fish with live worms that are amazingly effective.
Use Light Line - The strategy is to use the smallest pound test that is possible for the type of fish that you're fishing for. For example, I'm primarily a trout fisherman, and like to fish for trout while wading in small rivers and streams. I almost always use four pound test for this type of fishing. Especially when using live worms as bait, It's important to employ the lightest line possible. Remember, the lighter the line, the less detectable it is to the fish, and the less apt the fish are to detect your line, the better. And before you start thinking that large fish can't be landed on light line, consider this: I've hooked, fought, and landed fish as large as eight pounds while using four pound test monofilament.
Be Efficient - My mentor believed in being as efficient as possible while fishing. This meant that you had to have an efficient and effective way to carry your live worms. This is why a bait bag should be employed. A bait bag is simply a small bag that hangs off of your fishing vest while you're fishing. This means that you always know exactly where your live worms are, and they're literally always "at your fingertips", whenever you need to bait up. By using a bait bag to carry your live worms while fishing, you literally increase your fishing time by being so efficient.
Use Gang Hooks - When fishing with live worms, gang hooks should be used to rig them. You see, with a set of gang hooks, live worms can be presented outstretched the way God intended, rather than being presented like some sort of "worm ball". After using them, a single hook for live worm fishing just doesn't make any sense.
These simple, yet amazingly effective tips have been helping me to catch more fishing with live worms for quite a long time. Give them a shot, and I know they'll do the same for you. Now I realize that this may sound like a simple proposition, but there are some simple things that can be done when fishing for smallmouth bass, that can increase your catch rates. Especially when it comes to fishing for smallmouth bass with live worms, and in the flowing waters of either a river or stream. First of all, I'll explain the most effective way ever devised to rig your live worm, then I'll explain the actual setup that will help you catch a smallmouth bass. This entire article will only take you a few minutes to read, and will enable you to become a much more effective angler.
First things first. The best way ever devised for presenting live worms as bait is called a set of gang hooks. A set of gang hooks is simply a pair of small hooks, tied in tandem, which enables live worms to be presented in an outstretched and natural manner. This is a far cry from what most anglers do with live worms, which is attempting to "thread" them onto a single hook. If gang hooks are employed when fishing with live worms, you're catch rates will literally double! I know this might sound crazy, but I know it's true from experience. I began using gang hooks more than 15 years ago, and know don't fish without them. Gang hooks are as much a part of my fishing repertoire as my rod and reel, and are the only way that I ever fish with live worms.
Before I explain the actual setup, lets discuss our line for a second. I personally use four pound test monofilament, and suggest that no line heavier than six-pound test be employed. Start by grabbing the end of your line and tying on a small barrel swivel (size 10 or 12). Now on the opposite end of the barrel swivel, tie on a pre tied set of gang hooks. Split shot sinkers are know added for weight, above the barrel swivel. The goal is to have your offering bounce off of the bottom as it flows naturally with the current of the river or stream, bouncing off the bottom the entire time. Obviously the number and size of the split shot will have to be adjusted, depending of the depth of the water and current flow. At this point a live worm is rigged on the set of gang hooks. If you are using large night crawlers, simply pinch them in half.
That's the rig. Pretty simple, huh? Now you cast into the current, close your bail, and let your offering flow naturally downstream, until it's below you, and the drift is over. Simply repeat this process as you move along the river or stream. If there are smallmouth bass in the river or stream that you're fishing, this set-up will help you catch them. It has worked for me for more than 15 years, and I know it will do the same for you. Once you try a set of Pre-Tied Gang Hooks, you'll wonder how you ever fished without them. They truly are the best way to fish a live worm.
